How much detail should I put on each branch?

Balancing detail and clarity

Aim for concise nodes that convey the core idea—single words or short phrases work best. Too much text makes the map dense and reduces quick scanning; too little may lose meaning. Use notes or attachments for extended descriptions.

Guidelines:

  • Use keywords for nodes.
  • Put supporting details in notes or linked documents.
  • Expand branches only when needed for clarity.
  • Use separate branches for distinct topics rather than long node text.

For projects or study maps, you can add a bit more detail (dates, short tasks), but keep the main structure readable. If a topic needs extensive explanation, link to a document or create a nested sub-map to keep the primary map uncluttered.
